Zagat's Top ten favourite London restaurants

The fast food noodle bar chain - Wagamama - has been named London’s favourite restaurant by the influential Zagat Guide for the fourth year running. Using more than 5,300 volunteers to write its reviews, the guide has ranked Wagamama the most popular restaurant of the year ahead of the likes of The Ivy, Gordon Rasey and Le Gavroche.

Zagat's Top ten favourite London restaurants (with last year in brackets)

1. Wagamama (1)
Serving Japanese inspired cuisine, Wagamama first opened a branch in Bloomsbury in 1992 and has since flourished to more than 90 outlets of the restaurant worldwide.

2. The Ivy (3)

3. J.Sheekey (5)
Established way back in 1896, J. Sheekey has seen the good times and the bad times over its long history and since being taken over by Caprice Holdings in 1998 has grown in reputation.

4. Nobu London (2)
Nobu London was the first London restaurant of Nobuyuki Matsuhisa's 17-strong restaurant group and serves modern Japanese cuisine with a South American influence.

5. The Wolseley (6)
The Wolseley is located in St James' on London's most famous boulevards, Piccadilly. With magnificent interiors, particularly the original Japanese lacquer screens and friezes, The Wolseley is a Cafe & Restaurant in the grand European tradition.

6. Gordon Ramsay Royal Hospital Road (4)
Combining contemporary elegance, an intimate ambience and equisitely simple cuisine, Gordon Ramsay opened in 1998 as Gordon's first independently owned venture. Today it has three Michelin stars.

7. Hakkasan (11)
The restaurant is hip, chic and expensive rolled together like a perfect spring roll. Dark wooden Chinese furniture, splashes of neon colors and sexy dim-lighting gives the delicately oriental design a slight tinge of modernity. The ingenuity of combining the two makes sure that all clientele can fit in here, but the décor is only the beginning.

8. Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s (7)

9. Le Gavroche (8)
In April 1967 in the midst of a cultural revolution, a little restaurant in Lower Sloane Street opened its doors for the first time. The original urchin or ragamuffin ('Le Gavroche') painted by Pouc of Montmarte was presented on the opening night. 10. The Square (12)
Stylish and sophisticated, with two Michelin stars for its refined food from Chef/Co-owner Philip Howard, The Square is located in the heart of Mayfair, close to London's best shops and art galleries.
