The Porterhouse Overview
The Porterhouse is tucked away in a little known side street of Covent Garden. This, the flagship pub of Porterhouse brewery, describes itself as a 'Beer and Oyster bar'. It has an impressive interior, sporting acres of leather and brass piping in an antique nautical boiler room theme. This large pub is split into many different areas having a warm, clutttered feel that makes you want to explore the overhead walk ways and booths.
After the initial effect of the grand entrance the next unusual thing you will notice is when you come to order a drink. The bar here does not contain any of the ubiquitous brands of lagers or bitters found in virtually every bar in London, instead they opt for lesser known beers from their own brewery and around the world. The staff are very helpful in guiding you in the direction of which beers more closely match your usual tipple, to some extent defeating the object of having unusual beers in the first place.
For those wishing to get more explorative with their drinking there is a wide range of lagers with a truly gargantuan collection of traditional bitters available in pints or as part of a tasting platter.
Set back 10 meters from the road The Porterhouse has outside standing room for over 100 people. Proving very popular in the summer as a great place to soak up the rays by visiting tourists and office-worker locals alike. (Updated 06/03/2007)
