Berkeley Square Restaurant (closed for refurbishme Overview
Opened in 2003, The Berkeley Square was purchased by John De Stefano in 2005, one of the Capital’s most innovative new restaurateurs.
The glass-fronted elegance of The Berkeley Square provides the perfect foil for an intimate contemporary backdrop designed by acclaimed interior designer Shaun Clarkson who has created some of the Capital’s most fashionable bars and restaurants. The décor is contemporary but sumptuous, with aubergine velvet curtains, rich mulberry carpets and soft mauve walls. Comfortable chocolate brown leather chairs mingle with vibrant lime blanquettes. Huge abstract paintings adorn the walls and tables are set with ornate china and unusual glassware.
Under the watchful guise of Restaurant Manager Merete Black and husband, Head Chef Steven Black, the menu offers a selection of Modern European dishes focusing on the finest ingredients available. House specialties include Seared Scallops and Foie Gras with Cepes, Salsify and Parsnip Puree; Cornish Crab Risotto with Plum Tomato Sorbet and Olive Oil and Chocolate Mousse coated in Valrhona Chocolate with Lime Sorbet and candied Ginger. Uniquely Black has created special separate menus for vegetarians and children, in addition to private dining selections.
The Berkeley Square Bar is not only a great place for an aperitif or after dinner drink, but also a popular evening destination in its own right. On the lower ground floor of the building, this retrostyle lounge bar is one of Mayfair’s best-kept secrets. The space is fashionable yet familiar; its discerning crowd are attracted by its relaxed ambience, friendly staff and inspired cocktail menu. The Mojito is a perennial favourite.
With a capacity of 110, The Berkeley Square offers both indoor dining for up to 90 people and intimate alfresco dining for up to 12 people. The restaurant has established a loyal clientele drawn from the wealthy local businesses of Saville Row, Bruton Street and Bond Street who favour the lunchtime set menu. Local Mayfair residents enjoy the benefit of having The Berkeley Square on the doorstep, as an established and much loved neighbourhood restaurant. (Updated 21/08/2006)
