T (The Tea Building) Overview
Put the kettle on luv, I fancy a cuppa Tea.
Conveniently dunked between the Liverpool Street corporate high rises and Hoxton’s bevy of boozers/nudey bars is this hidden tea chest of treasures, where hobnobbing with the Shoreditch nonconformists is a pastime you won’t feel smothered by.
What is essentially a youth club for trendy young adults, Tea, with its assembly-hall vastness, is, in retrospect, like being back at school. Its only demerit would be its absence of pupils. But what it does lack in bodies it makes up for in class. A muted sound system, a scattering of kitsch IKEA furnishings, various flamboyant murals and maroon corduroy ‘David Lynch’ type drapes help fill this cavernous, low-ceilinged, concrete emporium.
Much like the bar staff the drinks are decent, and, if you’re lucky, affordable.
If it were a box of Twinings it’d be an assortment of multi-flavoured herbal infusions. Eh, brew? (Updated 14/10/2005)
