Redmond's (closed) Overview
Redmond's is a highly rated neighbourhood restaurant run by Redmond and Pippa Hayward. Since opening in May 1997, they have earned consistently good reviews for their particular blend of fine Modern British Cooking, warm welcome and an interesting wine list.
Redmond started his culinary life at The Connaught Hotel, thereafter progressing through Ealing Hotel School and a series of jobs, which culminated in his appointment as Head Chef at Anna’s Place in London in 1980. Within a year he was rated as one of the top twenty chefs in London by Drew Smith in The Good Food Guide. He was later recruited to open Calcot Manor in Gloucestershire, where he earned a “Red M” in the Michelin Guide within a year of opening.
In 1987 he opened his first eponymous restaurant in Cheltenham with his wife Pippa. He received his first Michelin Star in 1992.
He opened the current Redmond’s here in May 1997.
Pippa had always worked in catering and eventually, having got the academic bit of her life out of the way (she’s a graduate in Italian and a qualified language teacher) she returned to what she had always enjoyed, married a chef and opened a restaurant.
She has always received great notices for her front of house style and for her ability to put a good wine list together. (Updated 30/11/2008)
