Papageno Restaurant Overview
Papageno, named after a character inMozart's 'Magic Flute' is a theatrical delight for the eyes, ears and palate. Appropriately located in the heart of theatre land, the interior is a busy concoction of colourful stageprops, flamboyant artwork, gilt furniture and heavydrapes.
The relaxed, yet highly charged atmosphere is a reflection of the owner and ebullient host, Richard Niazi. Passionate about food, Opera and Arts, he will greet you like an old friend and make you feel instantly at ease. The decor is an exuberant cross between an opera set and Aladdin's Cave.
Designer Richard "Salim" Sleeman, whose work is not for the faint hearted, is so well regarded in Turkey he was given the keys to the city of Antalya.
Choose to dine in the splendid restaurant or up in the opera boxes, which are mounted high on the walls and provide a spectacular view of the interior, then sit back and allow the opera music to stir up emotions.
Once seated, crudités are served allowing you to concentrate on the fabulous and inexpensive Mediterranean Menu boasting excellent fish, vegetarian and Turkish dishes. Tempting starters include Fried Squid and cheese Borek. An exciting and comprehensive wine list has a very drinkable house wine available for £12.50. Desserts are delicious, choose from sweet pastries, cakes, cheeses or the huge fresh fruit platter, featuring a proud pineapple surrounded by seasonal fruits. (Updated 20/02/2007)
