Crown and Goose (Camden Town, London) review on Fluid Eating

Crown and Goose Overview

A story of goose women and liquor.

Before heading off to the nearby Dublin Castle, a few of us popped into the Crown and Goose for a bite to eat and an aperitif or two (erm, bottles).

Tucked just off Camden High Street, the Crown and Goose is the foodie’s drinking den. It has gastropub good looks (dark green walls, battered wooden tables and mismatched chairs with the odd antique fitting thrown in) and beautiful crowd (mostly media types judging by the number of mullet/ mohican dos) make this cosy space instantly likeable.

As well as being pretty to look at the Crown is also pretty cheap; a JD and coke cost £2.70 and a bottle of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon was only £11.95 (so we had two).

At £9.95 a yummy seasonal pumpkin risotto with toasted almonds and Parmesan was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, while a generously portioned falafel burger with grilled haloumi and simply fan-bleedin-tastic chips cost just £7.95 (order the chunky chips as a bar snack you have to try them).

Staff (especially the waitress who was run off her feet attending to the diners downstairs by herself) deserve a mention for being lovely beyond the call of duty.

One quick tip; the whole of upstairs was fully booked with diners. So if you do want to eat at the Crown & Goose you might want to call ahead and book instead of trying your luck with waiting for a free table downstairs (we waited 20 minutes).

This gem of a pub has a wonderful thing going, and what’s good for the Goose is well worth a gander.
