Celebrate Independence Day American-Style
at London's Waxy O'Connors on July 4th.

Everybody loves a worthy celebration and on July 4th 2008, as Irish and Americans across the world come together to celebrate Independence Day, Waxy O'Connors will be hosting the capital's biggest Independence Day party.

The Irish and the Americans have a long-standing history and close ties dating back hundreds of years, which explains why there are 30,528,492* US citizens who can claim Irish ancestry - that's 10.8% of the American population and more than 7 times the population of Ireland itself!

Set to rival the popularity of St Patrick's Day, last year's event was so successful; the Waxy's team have vowed to make Independence Day 2008 the biggest party they have hosted yet. Be prepared for company - with free entry, a delicious American-themed menu, extra supplies of the favourite Yankee tipples and live music from leading Irish band the Bible Code Sundays, Waxy O'Connor's is the place to be this July 4th.

The menu will include American favourites such as BBQ spare ribs, Surf 'n' Turf and Nachos with cheese. And if you needed more reasons to celebrate, you'll be rewarded for your celebrations with fabulous drinks promotions and plenty of fun giveaways. To top that off, July 4th falls on a Friday, so there's really no excuse to not join in the fun!

So, don't miss this once-a-year opportunity to join our American neighbours across the pond and around the world in celebrating this unique holiday and enjoy an unmissable party at Waxy's - the UK's largest Irish pub.

A brief history of Independence Day

Commonly known as the 4th of July, Independence Day marks the day the United States gained independence from Great Britain in 1776 and celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, although this date was only officially recorded in 1791.

Back then; thirteen guns were fired followed by patriotic displays of fireworks in the morning and again as evening fell. In the present day, countless outdoor activities take place including dedicated sports events and sizeable community parades, each accompanied by a popular orchestra playing patriotic songs to thousands of cheering spectators.
