Boheme Kitchen & Bar Overview

Just opposite Mama Mia on Old Compton street in Soho is ‘Boheme kitchen and bar’, a simply great place to chill with a cocktail on a busy Friday night or with a light meal and wine on a Sunday afternoon. Stylishly central but unpretentious, ‘bkb’ is usually packed with a loud and good-looking group of people day and night, most of which are on a budget just like you, although you would never know it. Trendy but unassuming, I’m right at home here, specially because it’s open until very reasonble hours.

Boheme’s décor somehow manages to combine cosy with minimalist. An interesting mix of red leather sofas and elegant wooden dining tables line the restaurant area, while outside and inside the front window are a string of other café tables. In front of the bar a set of tall wooden stools can comfortably prop you up for hours while you chat or watch other people. The pastel coloured-walls, earth-toned furniture and cushions, and soft lighting add warmth to the already laid-back feel, and although space is limited, the well designed layout helps this venue seem healthily crowded without being cramped.

Boheme’s bar staff will generously pour the vodka on your vodka tonic. The imaginative selection of cocktails means you’d probably go for something a bit more interesting, like the ‘peach raspbellini champagne cocktail’ or the delicious ‘passionfruit caipiroska’, at around £6. The bad news is there is no beer on tap, the good news is the wine list is huge and quite affordable. Home-made chips make an excellent snack with your drinks, and if you’re truly hungry, the sage and mozzarella stuffed chicken is worth every penny of the £12 price tag. Or choose from tasty sandwiches for around £7, clam linguine for £9, and a whole range of amazing-looking salads for less. Finally, if you’re into fresh seafood, there’s no better place to go.
