Bleeding Hearts Overview

Tucked away in a side street, the Bleeding Heart is a small tavern styled bar that provides a haven for the professionals of Clerkenwell/Farringdon.

The Bleeding Heart supplies a large range of wine including wines of the week, some bitters and a German beer on tap.

The food menu offers a variety of dishes from sausage and mash to duck. You can either eat upstairs in the bar or downstairs in a modest dining area.

Although the Bleeding Heart is small, the soft lighting and understated furniture creates an intimate evening for eating with friends and colleagues after work. Flowers are positioned at different points around the room and give life to the conservative décor.

The wooden floors and banisters also add to the ambience of a traditional tavern/wine bar. The Bleeding Heart is definitely a bar to be visited in the winter months with its warmly decorated interior and reserved manner. The Bar staff are friendly and competent, and the bar area is kept neat and tidy even when the place is at full capacity.

The most interesting feature is a large street map of the area etched on glass and displayed running along side the stairs. This imparts a bit of local character to the bar and also gives the opportunity to learn about the area.

The bleeding heart, however, has no music so is constantly filled with the chatter of its customers though during quiet periods this could make a visit here rather subdued.

It is only open Monday to Friday and most of its clientele will be dressed in suits or similarly formal attire, so it is best not to turn up in running shoes and ripped jeans.

All in all, The Bleeding Heart affords a quiet night out where you can eat and drink in a pleasant, warm environment. (Updated 05/12/2005)
