Bertorelli (Soho) Overview
A Bert of peace and quiet.
Ok, I admit this bar is not going to be to everyone’s taste. It’s clean and it’s modern (sleek lines, dimly lit, dark wood, big windows, matching two-seater sofas and chairs). It’s just nice. No real character to it, nothing quirky.
But on a Friday night in packed Soho, I have to admit I’m less bothered about quirkiness than I am about not getting varicose veins and getting served. Hence the Bertorelli’s bar (just upstairs of the restaurant) with its well-spaced and empty tables is just what an old fogey like me wants.
As well as your circulatory system it’s also kind to your wallet. A bottle of the house red (merlot) comes in at £11.50. Cocktails are also available at around £6 and, even better, staff are swift and don’t smirk when you order Prosecco (the bubbly that doesn’t break the bank) for £3.70 a glass.
Food wise, there is a full menu but I wouldn’t bother with the sharing plate of antipasti unless half a plate of shredded lettuce is what you actually wanted to eat.
Though this place has about as much atmosphere as the moon, if you’re looking for a bit of peace and quiet on a busy weekend night in Soho then do bear it in mind (I mean the Bertorelli’s bar not the moon). (Updated 12/08/2006)
