Located in the luxurious Lanesborough hotel on Hyde Park Corner at the heart of London, Aspleys offers more than simple dining; it offers a culinary experience. Apsleys' take on Italian cuisine is both glamourous and modern, matching the breathtaking Venetian-inspired dining room with its conservatory roof, contemporary chandeliers, pristine tablecloths and plush upholstered sofas. Traditionally inspired Italian dishes are prepared using the finest seasonal ingredients, many imported from Italy, and the menu itself changes with the Italian seasons. Within Apsleys, there are two semi-private dining rooms and two walk-in wine tasting rooms. The impressive wine list includes Italian, French and international wines, many available by the glass. Apsleys is also the venue for the Lanesborough Breakfast and Afternoon Tea. The enthusiastic tea sommelier can help you to choose from the wide tea selection to enjoy alongside assorted finger sandwiches, pastries and toasted teacakes. The restaurant is also famous for traditional afternoon tea, which must not be missed. The glass-roofed room is reminiscent of the Brighton Pavilion with its Chinoiserie theme and towering palms. “Awful cocktails - a real disappointment, given that this is a 5 star joint. My Manhattan was either over-iced, or they are diluting the drinks. Either way it tasted weak and watery. Thinking they had left it in the ice too long, I complained and then oversaw my second manhattan being made. It was slightly better, but still tasted gutless to me. To compare, I made my own version at home, and it confirmed my suspicion... either they are using cheap alcohol, or it's been diluted, or they are hopeless mixers. Whichever it is it's just not good enough for a place like this. Combined with the pomposity of the wait staff and the £9 service we were charged I think this is pretty poor show.
