Fluid Eating's Review of Abacus

Abacus is a Bar in the heart of the city of London that provides pretty much everything you’d want. Open from 12 till late (midnight mon-wed, 2am thurs-frid), Abacus has 3 bars and a club stretching over two floors.

If you’re after an intimate booth for a date, a larger booth for celebrations, a table for a daytime meeting or simply a bar stool to prop yourself on; Abacus has the stylish environment to suit your needs over both the ground level Bar and the basement level Lounge Bar.

As would be expected Abacus has a tempting cocktail and food menu, although not huge there’s a good choice of classical and modern drinks and dishes. A Happy Hour between 5 and 7 helps to push aside any work worries and before you know it you’ll be up on the dance floor. Can get busy later in the week and be warned Abacus has a strict dress code – mostly suits here.

Felix

Whether enjoying the delicious all day food menu, a pint from their range of premium draught beers or something cool from the delicious wine and cocktail menu, Abacus has a great atmosphere for any time of day.

The Main Bar’s informal eating areas, cosy sofas and booths are all light-filled and stylish - perfect to book for those afterwork get togethers or long lunches. The lounge bar and club are filled with modern furnishings based around the two bars and dancefloor, with DJs playing dance anthems and all the latest music.

Abacus welcomes booth bookings, area reservations and private parties. Abacus is a flexible choice for all pre-booked corporate events and hospitality requirements from a meeting for 2 to a company party for 850.

Abacus operates a smart dress code, no trainers, sportswear or ripped jeans. (Updated 13/01/2010)

“Went to Abacus last Friday - had the best night i have had in ages!! It was for my friends birthday, we managed to reserve a table which was so easy to do. The bar staff looked after us all night. Even better they now have a fantastic happy hour from 5-8pm with 50% off all food and drinks... No doubt i'll be returning very soon. Keep up the good work Abacus!! xx” Rating: jen, London (12 Jan 2010)

“Don't be put off by any -ve reviews of this place. A nite's only as good as the crowd you're with anyway... We booked an area downstairs - all good. Music cheesy but few drinks and you're there - worth stocking up during happy hour. Decent eye-candy about tho it was bank hol w/e hence up for it and friendly atmosphere. Only downside would be they pack it out majorly. My group of 20 or so guys and gals - all age late 20s, early 30s, loved it. Would go back again.” Rating: M S, london (07 Apr 2007)

“I visited london for the first time a year ago in jan 2006- and happened to stumble upon Abacus after a random day of being tourists. Well stumbling upon Abacus was so random that i met a british guy there - and ended up dating him for a year and traveled all over europe together. As an American who had never been abroad... it was the highlight of my first trip to London - i had a fabulous time. I highly recommend Abacus- fantastic place :)” Rating: Manhattan Girl, nyc (03 Apr 2007)

“I visited Abacus for the first time on friday 24/11/06. The place is nice, there is a great mixture of people. The music could be better though! Nevertheless, my two friends & I had a fantastic time. I would recommend it to anyone and I would go back again, next time i will try a thursday night!!” Rating: aggie, london (25 Nov 2006)

“I love this place, ever since I heard that a colleague of mine took his wife-to-be here on their first date, I have been here every Thursday. Yes its busy but you can't avoid that in the City. Don't forget your pink shirt!” Rating: Westo, London (29 Aug 2006)

“Abacus was a favourite of mine when it first opened but i hadnt visited it for quite some time. I went after work last Thursday with some of my work collegues to find it has had a refurbishment and looks great! New cocktails and a brilliant food menu. It is definately a place for forgetting work and having fun. We were dancing in the Club for most of the night and met some great people in there. I am looking forward to going back again soon. By the way, thank you Raf our amazing bartender!” Rating: Emma, London (20 Apr 2006)

“The only place to be on a thursday night. Cheap drink, beautiful women and a great atmosphere. Most certainly a night to remember.” Rating: sam, london (22 Oct 2005)

“Great bar on a friday night, fantastic atmosphere and met the girl of my dreams the stunning kate, Abacus is a must for city folk on a friday.” Rating: sanj, [ Unknown ] (27 Jul 2004)

“Really like the place. Fab atmosphere and very popular. Only complaint is that the drinks get more expensive as the evening progresses, and not everyone is too drunk not to notice.” Rating: Lindsay Arnold, London (16 Jul 2004)

“As i arrived at Abacus with friends there was a slight cue .......... quickly dissapeared inside to a small bar with sofas and a quiet ambience nice..................then my friend grabbed my arm and led me downstairs to heaven ....20 suits to one gal QUALITY! fun! fun! fun!” Rating: natasha, [ Unknown ] (02 Jul 2004)

“The atmosphere was great, very, very trendy place. One of the best venues around. How did they fit such a big and beautiful club in a small hole in the wall, great night out! Y3EAH!!” Rating: Franklin, London (04 May 2004)

“Was a great night out, a little on the "too" trendy side for the city - excellent! The music was a little up in the air, no real consistenecy to it - but good!” Rating: Dean, London (29 Apr 2004)

“Excellent bar - Abacus has a great atmosphere with a nice mix of city workers and everyone just letting their hair down after a hard days work. Quiter bar upstairs, bar downstairs and separate dance floor area. Drinks not too dear. Everyone eyes each other up so not a place to go with your boyfriend!” Rating: Melody, [ Unknown ] (06 Apr 2004)
