5th View bar & food Overview
Europe’s largest book store, Waterstone’s in Piccadilly, London W1, launched its all new 5th View bar & food in early July 06. It offers rooftop views over central London, towards Big Ben, combined with premium cocktails and casual, high quality dining. These internal spaces of the former Simpsons building – the suave menswear store built in the 1930s – have received a stunning makeover.
The contemporary menu features a selection of lunchtime savoury tarts (£8.50) with real gourmet appeal, platters to share in the evening, and premium cocktails (around £7.50). The ambience is fresh, airy, convivial and relaxing, and prices will please the regulars. There’s the effortless informality of US West Coast dining around a large communal table in one area, plus a hint of reviving a mood of literary banter cultivated in the grand cafés of Vienna. At its large Authors’ Table, 5th View offers a selection of books of the week to browse through. You can even settle down with a book of your choice, off the shelf. Such indulgence - plus free wi-fi.
5th View is open for cocktails, refreshments, lunch, pre-theatre, supper, and weekend brunch. Waterstone’s Piccadilly is open 10am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and Sunday noon to 6pm. Enter via Piccadilly or Jermyn Street. For reservations, tel: 0871-223-8302.
Be tempted by freshly baked tarts, beautiful cakes, freshly pressed juices, aromatic coffees, and champagne. Premium cocktails include fashionable pomegranate cosmo’s through to classic Kentucky mint juleps. Sixty world beers include gold medal winning Polish Tyskie (5.6% abv) and Chimay grand reserve at (9% abv). The wine list offers 20 wines by the glass, inspired by a rediscovered passion for rosés, to crisp chablis. (Updated 10/08/2006)
